Whenever Filipinos meet
someone new at destination Philippine travel,
chances are one of them will ask: Where’s your province? This is one of the
questions that I wish wouldn’t come up in the getting-to-know-you portion.
It reminds me that I cannot speak an indigenous language outside of Tagalog
(punctuated with American phrases “like, you know?”), nor do I have any
memories of climbing trees or swimming in a lake near the house of
grandparents waiting to smother me with love and native delicacies for
merienda. However, what I envy most of all is the way people with provinces
talk about their local cuisine. It seemed more fresh, exciting, exotic and
delicious than any fine dining restaurant you can find in Negros Occidental.
So it was a great pleasure for this writer to attend the opening of “An
Ilonggo Culinary Festival, destination Philippine travel”
which
will be opened.
